Biography
Florida artist and architect, Troy Tillman Ammons III....
I was born in Pensacola, Florida and started drawing and painting at an early age and developed a real aptitude for art during High School and College. I won the fine arts award from Pensacola High School, but abandoned an art education and career in favor of architecture. I received a professional degree in architecture from Mississippi State University and still practice architecture in Deerfield Beach, Florida today.
Artist Statement
I prefer to explore interesting subjects through certain mediums in a way that would not be possible without those mediums. I am constantly trying to create work that is unique in composition and style. In some of my most successful abstract paintings, I try to let the paint develop its own form through a controlled loose manipulation of and very fast interaction with the canvas, developing depth and interest as the painting progresses. I also work with glazes, scumbling and and drybrush for more refined paintings.
The selection of the medium and working of the painting technique is usually fit to the subject and I prefer strong subject matter mostly surreal/pop surreal and low brow nudes and an occasional portrait, but I also enjoy still life painting too.
I paint in a lot of different mediums. Oil, Alkyd, Egg and oil tempera, paint sticks and whatever else works for the subject.

Professor Duke - Head of the art department at Pensacola Junior College, Retired. Thanks for the inspiration I have carried throughout my life. You were right. I should have gotten an art degree, but at least I am still painting.
